The Netherlands has more than 115,000 mentally disabled people.

“They are difficult, what should we do with them?” Is the generally prevailing idea in society according to Jolita Klepper, team manager of day center De Beemster when she talks about her clients. “I recently heard a politician say on TV about the day's activities; "They just mess around". Wellbeing, you have to fight for that in 2013. Our clients are on the edge of society. If they want to be involved, we have to change ourselves. "

We made a filmportrait about life and wellbeing at the Beemster, a day care center at the Cordaan care institution where mentally handicapped people spend time with each other on weekdays. While we see team manager Klepper struggling financially due to increasing governments budget cuts, the clients do all kinds of activities under the guidance of dedicated employees. To bring the clients from the Beemster more in contact with the neighborhood, they work together with pupils from group 8 of the Amstelmeerschool on the stage pieces for their final musical.
