Most parents think their children want the newest, shiniest toys—but do they really? Kids remind us every day: the best toys are someone else’s. So, why not give them that joy?

This campaign, created for second-hand platform Marktplaats, encourages parents to consider preloved toys this holiday season. Inspired by the brilliant insight from agency Happiness, I directed a home video-style tv commercial (also for online & outdoor) of kids telling us exactly what they love most: someone else’s toys.

Three Stories. One Mission.

For “ stichting Spieren voor Spieren” we created three short films to raise awareness and funds for children with severe muscle diseases. Each story highlights the urgent need for early diagnosis, groundbreaking treatments, and long-term support — bringing real lives to the forefront of the conversation.

The story of Guus aired on Dutch TV and was nominated for the prestigious 'Gouden Loeki' in 2021.

Film 1. What a Heel Prick Can Change (2025)

This split-screen film follows a day in the lives of two young girls with SMA: Sola (2) and Elena (4).
While Sola can walk, Elena cannot — the only difference is timing.

Elena was born just before SMA was added to the national newborn screening and missed the window for early treatment. The film quietly reveals the profound impact of that delay — and shows how Spieren voor Spieren helped change the future for children like Sola.

Film 2. From First Steps to Fading Strength (2025)

Reza has Duchenne, a rare muscle disease that slowly weakens the body.

Through touching home videos, we see Reza’s first smile, his first steps, his first time riding a bike. Then the story shifts — to moments marking the gradual loss of those abilities. The film ends with Reza in a wheelchair, reminding us that while Duchenne is progressive, there is still time to help him live his best possible life.

Film 3. Guus Makes Waves (2021)

Guus (7) has a severe form of SMA. Since receiving the drug Spinraza, his condition has stabilized — and he’s even gained strength.

Using intimate footage filmed by his mother, the film follows Guus’ journey from hospital visits to a powerful milestone: swimming on his own for the first time.
This film helped launch a fundraising campaign for faster diagnoses and more effective treatments for children like Guus.

What happens if you ask your colleagues to read the motivation letters that got them hired?

For this employer branding campaign, we surprised Vandebron employees right on the work floor with their own motivation letters. The goal? To showcase Vandebron’s values in an authentic and relatable way, infused with a touch of contagious awkwardness. Instead of a top-down corporate message, we used genuine employee stories to highlight the core values: the importance of Vandebron's mission, a strong emphasis on human and personal values, and a commitment to tech and innovation.

From hunting down inspiring motivation letters to the actual surprise at the office, we discovered a common thread among Vandebronners: optimism, a 'Can-do' attitude, concern for the world, and a focus on solutions and sustainability. These are values that we hope future employees will see in themselves, too!

Why is it made so difficult for us and our children to make healthy food & drink choices?

Everywhere around us unhealthy drinks and food are offered and promoted to such an extent that the choice for healthy drinking and eating is made impossible by the food industry.

Outraged by this lack of freedom of choice, Wefilm and Juliette Stevens, together with the Diabetes Fund, Heart Foundation, Gastro-Intestinal Foundation, and Kidney Foundation (united in the Alliance for Healthy Generation Nutrition), are launching the awareness campaign “op zoek naar gezond” (searching for health). With this, we aim to wake up the Netherlands and initiate a change together.

The centerpiece of the campaign is the three-part documentary series 'Op zoek naar gezond' (Searching for Health), in which journalists Renze Klamer, Hanna Verboom, and Fidan Ekiz expose the painful truth about how our behavior is influenced. Check www.opzoeknaargezond.nl

Recent research has shown that 1 in 5 Dutch people is unhappy at work. With this knowledge NCOI started a new campaign where they asked the Dutch if they were following their ambition. The word ambition has a different connotation for everyone. For one it means making money and climbing the ladder of success, for the other it means growing as a human being.

The campaign allows people to examine how happy they are in their work and whether they are following their ambition, and it encourages people to go for what they really want. The focus is on a video in which working people in the Netherlands are asked about their job satisfaction and ambition on the street. The honest answers in this clip show that ambition means something different to everyone. By offering non-binding assessments and career coaching on their website, NCOI wanted to optimally support working people in the Netherlands in making decisions that contribute to their own happiness at work.

Whatever your ambition, if you aren’t doing something you really want, the chances are high you’ll be unfulfilled. Are you already following your ambition?

The aim of this project was to give Epke Zonderland a boost for his final Olympic Games and show him gratitude from all over the Netherlands, for his outstanding performances and hard work.

Epke Zonderland, also known als the Flying Dutchman, gave us lots of amazing sport moments. We’ll never forget his Olympic achievement on the horizontal bar in 2012 as the first gymnast to complete three flight elements without any errors. On behalf of all citizens of the Netherlands we wanted to give something back.

This resulted in a personal video which included unforgettable moments of his career, paired with beautiful words from his beloved ones. Together with his family, we also collected old video tapes with fragments of Epke practising gymnastics from a young age. This trip down memory lane made it very special and possible for us to get a glimpse of Epke’s life.

After producing this video, we waited for Epke to show up on his final practise for the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The deafening silence of the empty sports hall, with our crew waiting in the dark, created a nerve wrecking moment. At a certain point, Epke arrived and watched his personalised video. The beautiful and encouraging words of his friends and family genuinely touched him and gave him strength to prepare for his last big performance. Our goal was achieved and we hope that with this video, he has got a special memento to cherish.

For the upcoming Dutch elections we show that green political party Groenlinks is not about less, but about more.

The past year has been for many people, a year of holding back. It was a year of “less”. Left wing ideals are also sometimes associated with “less”. Less meat, less flying, less fun. For the upcoming Dutch elections we turn this notion around. GroenLinks is always about optimism and perspective. GroenLinks is not about less, but about more! More Votes, More Future, More GroenLinks.

The weeks before election day we shook up the Netherlands with a barrage of short videos for TV and online showing the themes that GroenLinks is committed to.

In every video we observe a different person at home. All of them hear or see something disturbing. They ‘wake up’ and get hit by the realization they do have influence on what’s happening in their country. Election Day is around the corner. So wake up, jump up and go vote!

Bouwmaat 35 years, commercial 2021

In 1986 the first Bouwmaat opened its doors in Schiedam. Now, it has grown to 50 beautiful locations throughout the Netherlands.

But they couldn’t have expanded without their customers. And thanks to their advice, products and hospitality the customers can’t live without Bouwmaat. Because only together, after 35 years, Bouwmaat has become what it is today.

Bouwmaat commercial 2020

In this commercials for Bouwmaat, we follow the heroes that (re)build our homes and work incredibly hard for amazing results.

Before dawn breaks, these plumbers, floor layers, plasterers and painters are already on the road to their first base, Bouwmaat.

Here, they gather around a good cup of morning coffee, receive professional advice from the employees or just discuss the upcoming challenges with their fellow-builders. Once equipped with the right tools, they get on the move to ensure running water and leak proof our roofs.

It strangely occurs that when we grow up, we tend to lose our connection with nature. We are becoming less and less one with nature. Weird if you think about it, because we’re living in the middle of it. Nature is not only exotic forests or far away oceans, it’s everywhere. The World Wide Fund of Nature (WWF) asked Wefilm and me to help them bringing their new Be One With Nature slogan to life. They want to address everyone to take action by becoming more One With Nature and create a better world.

The people that still have the most connection with nature are our future generations. And they are worried. Very worried about the place where they have to live when they grow up. Or their children. That’s why we came up with a strategy where our future generation of adults show grown ups how to become One With Nature again. A bitter truth. However we don’t want to point fingers, we want to motivate. By showing what you can actually do.

We made a short film with four young activists, speaking in front of an unexpected group of adults. They speech on different locations, in front of different audiences, but they tell one story. We’ve let it come much to far. But they don’t blame the adults as they know much more now, than most adults did in the past. But the fact is, we have to take action. And as the adults are mostly talking, the young generation will lead the way. But they do ask for help. And to make a start, the youngsters show what we can do to help.

Free a Girl, a Dutch NGO striving for a world without commercial sexual exploitation and JWT developed the idea for an actual School of Justice.

Breaking taboos doesn’t come easily. Juliette Stevens and her all-women crew went to India and spent hours talking to young victims of child prostitution. This two-minute campaign film reflects the essence of a week’s worth of footage in India. slowly understanding their pain – and their resilience to change the system from within. Those who persevere and do their very best as law students, will become lawyers, prosecutors, legal social workers, police offers and journalists. The School of Justice in India is thriving, and a second School recently opened its doors in Nepal.

From victim to victor! This powerful message didn’t go unnoticed: the campaign film was awarded a Golden Lion at the Cannes Lions International Festival, and received a Black Pencil at the D&AD Impact Awards in New York.

WHAT IF WE DIDN’T NEED A PAINTER TO CREATE ART, BUT MERELY A TEAM OF PASSIONATE ART HISTORIANS AND TECHNICIANS?

Never has a painting raised so many issues and feelings. This experiment involving 148 billion pixels and 13 layers of UV ink – is it art? Art that didn’t involve blood, sweat or tears – is it still art? Or is it something else, something new entirely: the first creative expression of some sort of artificial intelligence, perhaps?

In The Next Rembrandt, Juliette Stevens alternates philosophical questions with fascinating technology topics, jumping from the world of algorithms and big data to the realm of art and creativity – and back again.

The case film received 16 awards at the Cannes Lions International Festival 2016, including 2 prestigious Grand Prix. The 25-minute documentary opened the InScience Film Festival in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, and was screened at various film festivals around the world. It won the “best medium length film” award during the Arte Non Stop Festival in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

You probably won’t know about them until fate catches up with you, and you get cancer. First, you’ll meet the usual medics, highly skilled at fixing you from the inside. Afterwards – if you’re lucky – you’ll be introduced to the wizard doctors. They do more than just fixing what you look like. They listen, helping you to feel whole again.

‘KWF Kankerbestrijding,’ the Dutch Cancer Society, asked Wefilm to put the spotlight on the hidden forces beaming its healing rays on the dark world of cancer. Our first main character is Brigitte Drost, a so-called ‘doctor dermatograph’. As a medical tattoo artist, she’s been working at a cancer hospital in Amsterdam for 25 years. Doctor Drost doesn’t turn nice into pretty, but deviant into normal. Her work goes from covering scars with skin-colored ink, to tattooing nipples on women who had to have their breasts removed to survive.

We didn’t just want to make a portrait of the wizard doctor herself. We wanted to show how valuable a wizard doctor’s work is, by surprising him or her with testimonials of the people permanently changed.

Music has positive effects on people with dementia. It can recall memories and give peace of mind. That is why Alzheimer Nederland has launched a music card in collaboration with online greeting card service “Greetz” for people with dementia.

People with dementia can still hum along with music from the past. How is that possible? Research indicates that the brain areas involved in music are relatively spared in Alzheimer's disease. In this way people who suffer from this disease can recall memories and happy feelings with the help of music. For Greetz and Alzheimer Nederland, Juliette Stevens carefully captured the sincere, intimate reactions of 3 Alzheimer patients who were suprised by their loved ones with a music card with their favorite songs. From every card sent, Greetz donates 5 euros to Alzheimer Nederland for research on music therapy and how it can be used to improve lives of those whose memories are fading.

Grief is usually felt most strongly when a precious thing happens to us, like a wedding or the birth of a child. Not being able to share our joy with our late mother, sister or grandfather makes the pain so much worse.

Imagine getting a letter from heaven, just when you need it. A real, hand-written letter, written by the one who should be right here with you.

For Hallmark I captured the intimate stories of three people. We meet a young woman in her mid-twenties, whose mother died when she was ten. One of her most precious possessions is the letter her mother wrote before she died, and gave to her father to pass on. The second person portrayed, in her late twenties, also lost her mother. She treasures a box packed by her mother with letters, cards and gifts, just for her. And finally we get to know a forty-something mother in the process of filling two boxes, intended for her two young daughters. She wants them to have a tangible legacy to hold on to, even after she’s gone. Writing letters has become her way of passing on memories, observations and life lessons. Love for ever! WE HARDLY APPRECIATE WHAT ALMOST ALL OF US HAVE: A FAMILY. WHAT’S IT LIKE TO GROW UP WITHOUT IT?

SOS Kinderdorpen takes care of children who are practically alone because of poverty, war or disease. For their 2013 campaign, the organisation took a camera crew, led by Juliette Stevens, to its Village in the suburbs of Johannesburg, South Africa.

However heartbreaking their stories, it’s easy to fall in love with the children who lost their foundation – their family – and found a new one in the Village. In the campaign film, the children simply talk about what matters: love, care and safety provided by a family. The aim of the campaign ‘Familie is je basis’ (Relatives are fundamental) was to draw attention to children without parents or a safe home, and to bring in 7000 new donors.
